Description: Deputy Constable James was shot during a stakeout in an area where several couples had been robbed. Deputy James and an associate were sitting on a bench as a decoy when a man crawled through the fence and ran towards them. Without provocation, the man began shooting and Deputy James was shot in the abdomen. Deputy James returned fire, wounding his assailant. Deputy James died of his injuries the next day. The suspect was not captured.
