Description: Officers Jenkins and Charles Sadler were shot while investigating railroad ticket fraud. At approximately 6:00 p.m. someone complained of an individual recklessly displaying a revolver at the Railroad Depot at Pablo Beach (now known as Jacksonville Beach). As both officers approached the suspect and grabbed him, the suspect jerked away and pulled a revolver from his pocket. The suspect shot Deputy Sadler under the heart and as "Cap" Jenkins was firing at the fleeing suspect, another suspect shot Officer Jenkins in the back. A vacationing Cincinnati police officer observed the shooting, quickly found a shotgun, and gave chase after the suspects. He shot one of the suspects, but they both escaped. A posse returned later with the bodies of the two dead suspects.
