Description: Investigator Johnston responded to a local bank where a suspect was attempting to cash a forged check. The suspect, who was armed, confronted Investigator Johnston with his weapon drawn. Investigator Johnston drew his weapon at the suspect however there was a civilian between them. Officer Johnston pushed the civilian out of harms way and the suspect shot him in the neck. Officer Johnston was rendered paraplegic but returned to work on limited duties. He was forced to medically retire in November of 2001. He developed cancer as a result of his injuries and died one year later.
