Description: Corporal Johnson was shot and killed while he and other law enforcement officers were conducting a holiday-weekend public safety checkpoint in Berkeley County, South Carolina. While ticketing a female driver for an opened container, Corporal Johnson walked around the back of the truck to check the identity of the male passenger. Suddenly the man jumped out of the truck and opened fire, striking Corporal Johnson in the abdomen just below his vest. Corporal Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
