Description: Jailer Johnson was shot and killed during a raid in Brownsville, which became part of a series of events later termed the "Cortina War." On September 28, 1859 Juan Cortina and 75 men raided the city killing several men, women, and children. Jailer Johnson was shot and killed while protecting the citizens of Brownsville, Texas.
