Description: Civil disorder (mass disobedience, riot, etc.). The City of Baltimore was preparing for the presidential primary elections of 1857. The police department expected trouble at the polls after the withdrawals of several Democratic candidates from the election ballots. Sergeant Jordan was on patrol when a riot broke out outside the fifth ward polling station. Sergeant Jordan was shot several times. Several officers were wounded in this incident.
