Description: Sergeant Kendall was fatally shot as five prisoners escaped from the Parchman Penitentiary. Sergeant Kendall was taken hostage by the prisoners as he supervised their work in an outside field. Sergeant Kendall was shot several times in the chest when the prisoners exchanged gunfire with correctional officers. He died while undergoing surgery at the East Bolivar County Hospital.
