Description: City Marshal Keeler had arrested a soldier from the Army's 23rd Infantry for disorderly conduct. While escorting the prisoner to the jail, Marshal Keeler and Deputy Peter Ruffner were attacked by a party of eight to ten soldiers who demanded the suspect soldier be released. Marshal Keeler was shot and killed when he refused to release the soldier.
