Description: Deputy Kirby and Deputy W. Dailey led a raid on a whiskey still. As the deputies destroyed the equipment, they were fired upon. Deputy Kirby was shot several times as he lay dying. The suspects were known to have a grudge against Deputy Kirby who was a rigorous opponent of moonshiners. The suspects were found guilty of murder and received a sentence of 10 years hard labor.
