Description: Officer Keating, who was in plainclothes, spotted a wanted suspect. Officer Keating had the suspect on his knees at gunpoint when Officer William Leahy, of the Pinkerton P.D. and also in plainclothes, came upon the scene. Officer Leahy, mistaking Officer Keating for a robber, demanded that he drop his weapon. Officer Keating turned to face Officer Leahy and was fatally shot (friendly fire). The suspect escaped.
