Description: City Marshal Knowles was shot as he attempted to arrest a man who was brandishing a shotgun and making threats. When Marshal Knowles and a posse arrived at the residence and called out to the suspect to surrender, the suspect fired, striking Marshal Knowles in the head. Marshal Knowles died of his injuries two days later. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with the posse.
