Description: Deputy Sheriff Kitchen was shot several times in an exchange of gunfire as he stepped from his vehicle to investigate a car that had stopped in the middle of the road. A subsequent inspection of the car by law enforcement officers revealed several gallons of bootleg liquor. Deputy Kitchen was transported to the hospital where he died the next day. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
