Description: On May 11, 1921, Deputy Sheriff Kempson was shot as he attempted to serve a warrant to a suspect wanted for theft. As Deputy Kempson read the warrant, the suspect suddenly drew his weapon and shot Deputy Kempson five times. As Deputy Kempson lay on the ground, the suspect removed Deputy Kempson's gun from its holster and shot Deputy Kempson again with his own gun. Deputy Kempson died of his injuries three days later. The suspect was killed by a posse.
