Description: Sheriff Kimmey sustained a head wound when he was struck with a bowie knife by a man who was a candidate for the office of sheriff. Sheriff Kimmey drew his gun, fatally wounded his attacker and fled the scene. Sheriff Kimmey was then pursued by a second man who shot him. Sheriff Kimmey died of his injuries two days later. His assailant was not apprehended despite a monetary reward and proclamation issued by the governor.
