Description: Deputy Sheriff Koontz was shot and killed while attempting to serve two drug-related warrants. When Deputy Koontz and other law enforcement officers arrived at the residence and announced their presence, there was no answer. As Deputy Koontz and another unit from the department entered the residence, the suspect opened fire, striking both officers. The officers were transported to the hospital. Deputy Koontz succumbed to his wounds during surgery. The second officer survived. The suspect committed suicide.
