Description: Guard Keating was shot and killed during a shootout at Fort Smith, Arkansas. A prisoner in custody for a separate murder was instrumental in convincing Guard Keating's murderer to surrender, was subsequently pardoned, and killed while robbing a bank in 1921. The suspect who killed Guard Keating was hanged on March 17, 1896.
