Description: Deputy Marshal William Kelly, Deputy Marshal Mark Kuykendall and Deputy Marshal Henry Smith were killed after being assaulted by a prisoner with an axe. The three deputy marshals were left in charge of a prisoner while the marshal went into Eufaula, Oklahoma on business. When the marshal returned he found the deputy marshals had been attacked with an axe and Deputy Marshal Kelly had also been shot. The marshal hunted the suspect down and rearrested him. The man was tried and convicted on July 13th, and hung on October 7, 1887.
