Description: Deputy Warden Klein was stabbed and beaten to death in his office at the State Prison in Stateville, Illinois. Seven inmates had asked to see Deputy Warden Klein and when he entered his office they attacked him. Deputy Warden Klein was stabbed with a knife and scissors and hit over the head with an iron bar. The suspects then took a guard and trustee hostage and escaped from the prison. The two hostages were later tied to a tree as the inmates continued their escape. They were eventually captured. Six of the seven suspects were convicted of Deputy Warden Klein's murder and sentenced to death.
