Description: Trooper Lacroix stopped at the Edgewater International Speedway in Jefferson County to check on traffic conditions and observed a stock car overturned on the race course. As he went to the car to determine if the driver was injured, a wheel from another racer careened up the embankment and struck him in the chest and head. Trooper Lacroix died in an ambulance while being transferred to a hospital for emergency surgery.
