Description: Chief Law and Trooper Grady Sutton were shot in an exchange of gunfire while attempting to take three men into custody for questioning. Chief Law and Trooper Sutton were standing on the running board of the vehicle when the suspects began shooting. Chief Law died at the scene. Trooper Sutton was transported to the hospital where he died several hours later. One of the suspects died of his wounds. The other two suspects were convicted of both murders. The second suspect received a sentence of 40 years and the third suspect received a sentence of life in prison.
