Description: Deputy Marshal Layman was shot and killed by suspects who were upset that they had been disarmed by the deputy. Deputy Marshal Layman and one of his deputies were traveling with three prisoners in the Choctaw Nation and had setup camp near a home. The owner of the home, the deputy, and three other men went into Texas to attend a wedding. Upon returning, two of the men began to argue and were then disarmed by the deputy. The men left the camp, returned with guns and shot and killed Deputy Marshal Layman. One of the suspects was convicted of manslaughter.
