Description: On June 1, 1899, Police Officer Lewis suffered a fractured skull as he attempted to arrest a man at a saloon who was behaving in a disorderly manner. The man resisted arrest and in the scuffle, Officer Lewis was knocked to the ground. Officer Lewis struck his head and fractured his skull. He did not recover from the injury and became paralyzed. Officer Lewis died of his injuries 14 months later on August 7, 1900.
