Description: Officer LaPage was shot and killed by a suspect who went on a shooting spree. The suspect was involved in a three-car collision at Cannon Street and Courenay Drive in Charleston, South Carolina. The suspect fled the scene after fatally shooting a flight medic and seriously wounding another. While fleeing the scene, the suspect encountered Officer LaPage who was working at a department authorized, uniformed off-duty security job at a private college dorm. Assuming that Officer LaPage was searching for him, the suspect immediately opened fire, striking Officer LaPage in the head, back, and elbow. Officer LaPage was wearing his vest but succumbed to the head injury at a local hospital.
