Description: Sheriff Leary was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest several men who were drinking and brandishing their pistols at passersby. Although shot in the chest and gravely wounded, Sheriff Leary was able to return fire and wound his assailant. Citizens responding to the gunfire shot and killed the suspect as he attempted to flee.
