Description: Deputy Sheriff Loney was shot as he and a posse went to a residence to arrest a suspect wanted for stealing and butchering a cow. The posse found a portion of the meat in the barn and arrested the suspect. As Deputy Loney searched the house for the rest of the meat, the suspect's 15 year-old juvenile son shot him in the leg with a Winchester rifle. Deputy Loney died at the scene. The juvenile and his mother, who was also jailed for her role in the killing, were both lynched.
