Description: Chief Luckett was found shot to death in an alley with his pistol and cartridge removed. Chief Luckett was working the night shift on his regular beat when he was shot in the shoulder, neck and face. He returned fire but did not strike his assailant. Chief Luckett had been kidnapped by bandits the previous year and testified against them in court. The ringleader was given a ten year sentence but escaped. Chief Luckett had recently received several threatening letters.
