Description: Deputy Leftwitch was shot when he and other deputies, acting on a tip, went to arrest a gang of horse thieves. The posse of lawmen confronted the suspects and a gunfight ensued. Deputy Leftwitch was fatally shot and died at the scene. His assailant was shot and killed by a Deputy U.S. Marshal four years later.
