Description: Sheriff Law was shot by an angry mob who were attempting to abduct his prisoner. Sheriff Law, the prosecuting attorney and the constable were escorting the prisoner from the court to the penitentiary when their carriage was shot at. The prisoner had been sentenced to six years for horse theft. Sheriff Law was shot in the spine and died of his injuries a week later. The other two men were wounded but survived. The mob lynched the prisoner.
