Description: Patrolman Long was struck by an impaired driver as he conducted a routine traffic stop. Patrolman Long had stopped a vehicle and requested identification and registration when he was struck by the passing car and thrown approximately 60 feet. The driver did not stop but was apprehended shortly after. Patrolman Long was transported to the hospital with a fractured skull and two broken legs, among other injuries, and died several hours later. The impaired driver was sentenced to three to five years in prison on a charge of hit-and-run.
