Description: Sergeant Lane and another deputy were investigating a boat fire on Sabine Lake. During their search for the fire, radio communication was lost with the OH 58 model helicopter. The wreckage was located at 2:00 a.m. by Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens. Sergeant Lane, who was a passenger in the helicopter, was found dead at the scene. The other deputy survived the crash and was able to swim to safety.
