Description: Officer Loper left his assigned post to get a meal when he was approached by a gunman who intended to rob him. Officer Loper was about 15-20 feet away from the man when he was accosted. Officer Loper reached for his weapon, prepared to make an arrest. Officer Loper was shot in the chest and stomach and died the next day. The suspect was tried in a court of law and sentenced to death.
