Description: On November 20, 1923, Detective Laicy was shot while patrolling the railyard in Elyria, Ohio. Detective Laicy was shot twice when he ordered a group of hobos to exit the box car and leave the premises. Although mortally wounded, Detective Laicy returned fire and shot his assailant. Detective Laicy was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries four days later on his birthday. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
