Description: Police Officer Lane was shot while attempting to arrest a suspect who had attacked a police officer then stole her car which held her service weapon, badge and handcuffs. The suspect, who was a convicted felon on parole, then abducted two women at gunpoint and led police on a high speed chase. Officer Lane pursued the suspect after he crashed the vehicle and fled on foot. As Officer Lane caught the suspect and struggled to subdue him, the suspect fatally shot Officer Lane twice with the stolen service weapon. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to death by lethal injection but was killed by another inmate while on death row.
