Description: Deputies Lipps and Sam McLain served a warrant on a man accused of adultery. When the deputies informed the man that he was under arrest, the man opened fire on both officers. Deputy McLain was shot in the wrist but returned fire, killing their assailant. Deputy Lipps, who was shot in the chest and abdomen, died of his injuries two weeks later.
