Description: Undersheriff Lane was killed in an airplane accident during a search-and-rescue mission near Sherman Pass. Undersheriff Lane and a civilian pilot were part of a rescue effort searching for a missing mentally disturbed woman in the woods. The Cessna 172 experienced mechanical difficulties and crashed, killing Undersheriff Lane and the civilian pilot. The missing woman walked out of the woods unharmed several hours later.
