Description: Trooper Lamonaco was shot during a routine traffic stop. The driver, Thomas Manning, and the passenger, Richard Williams, were members of the United Freedom Front, a revolutionary group the FBI had been after for more than seven years for 18 bombings. When Trooper Lamonaco asked Manning to exit the car, Williams did so as well and began firing at Trooper Lamonaco. Once the officer was down, Williams continued to fire. Three shots were fired into his back at point blank range while Trooper Lamonaco was lying face down in the snow. The suspects were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Williams died in 2006.
