Description: Deputy Ludlow was shot during the Watts Riots while attempting to disperse looters from a blazing store. Deputy Ludlow's partner was carrying a shotgun as he approached a vehicle and instructed them to leave. An occupant in the car grabbed the gun, the deputy twisted it out of his grasp and the weapon discharged, hitting Deputy Ludlow in the stomach. The man who tried to disarm the deputy was convicted on manslaughter charges.
