Description: Special Agent Lankford was shot in the head as he and Agent Ray King attempted to stop a fight between three men in front of a saloon in Springfield, Illinois. Agent Lankford was transported to the hospital and did not regain consciousness. He died of his injuries the next day. His assailant was arrested and charged with murder.
