Description: Officer Lopez was shot and injured after responding to a disturbance call where an armed suspect in a bar was creating a disturbance. Officer Lopez was shot twice in the abdomen as he entered the bar. The suspect was convicted of capital murder and died while in prison. Officer Lopez never fully recovered but returned to duty one year later in 1978. In 2006, Officer Lopez developed complications from his injuries and died while undergoing surgery.
