Description: On October 14, 1996, Lieutenant Mecham was investigating a possible homicide and went to the residence of a suspect. Upon making contact with the suspect at the residence, the suspect ambushed Lieutenant Mecham and shot him in the neck with a shotgun. In 2016, Lieutenant Mecham was diagnosed with lung cancer which developed due to complications of his injuries and died on April 3, 2017.
