Description: Chief Meehan succumbed to injuries he sustained while attempting to stop a car of suspected robbery suspects. A garage mechanic notified the police that two men in a car had driven through a crossing gate and Chief Meehan responded to the call. Chief Meehan pulled up alongside the car on his motorcycle and commanded the suspects to stop. The suspects shot Chief Meehan twice. Although seriously injured, Chief Meehan returned fire and wounded one of the suspects. Chief Meehan was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspects, aged 18 and 19 respectively, were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
