Description: Patrolmen Murray and Kennedy were sent to arrest a suspect wanted on robbery charges. When the suspect saw the officers approaching his door, he fled through the rear entrance of his residence. The officers chased the suspect to the nearby stables where a gun battled ensued. Patrolman Murray was shot fatally in the head, and Patrolman Kennedy was wounded in the arm. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. On March 13, 1930, while incarcerated at the Trenton State Prison, the inmate shot and killed Deputy Keeper Frank Butcher while attempting to escape. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers.
