Description: Officer Merrit attempted to arrest a man who was walking along the trolley tracks with two pistols. Officer Merrit was shot and killed by the suspect who then fled and barricaded himself in a house. Lawmen quickly arrived at the scene and surrounded the house. Deputy Elijah Pevito was killed during the second gun battle that ensued. The suspect was shot and killed by Jefferson County lawmen.
