Description: Sergeant Mechels was shot and killed while conducting a well-being check. Sergeant Mechels responded to a farmhouse, where a 19-year-old suspect was hiding in the bathroom with a rifle. The suspect shot at Sergeant Mechels, who then sought cover behind his patrol vehicle. The suspect aimed his gun out the bathroom window and shot Sergeant Mechels in the neck. Sergeant Mechels was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
