Description: Sergeant Clyde Merritt responded to a call to assist other officers on a shots fired, officer down call. Patrolman James Bryant of the Broxton, GA, Police Department was shot by a suspect with a high powered rifle that penetrated his vest. Sergeant Merritt was shot and killed as he tried to crawl to Patrolman Bryant. Both officers were pronounced dead at the scene.
