Description: Ranger McDuffie was shot by an intoxicated man who was angry that he had been fired as jailer. Ranger McDuffie was in Gladewater on a case and was riding with Chief Dial when they came upon the man brandishing a Winchester. The man fired, striking Ranger McDuffie in the torso. Chief Dial returned fire, killing him. Ranger McDuffie died before reaching the hospital.
