Description: Prison Officer McCarthy was shot by an inmate who was attempting to escape from the Sing Sing facility. Officer McCarthy died two days later. Officer Ernest Bullard was also shot but survived. The inmate was scheduled for execution for having killed two New York City Patrolmen William Heaney and Charles Teare in 1913. The suspect was executed in the electric chair.
