Description: Officer McCain was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a suspect who had stolen a car. The suspects stole a car in Vandalia, California and were stopped in Pocahontas, California by Officer McCain and his partner. The suspects crashed the vehicle into a ditch, Officer McCain was waiting outside the vehicle with his weapon drawn when 2 shots rang out striking Officer McCain in the chest and arm. From his laying position, Officer McCain fired three shots at the suspect in the stolen vehicle and the gave his weapon to his partner who shot and killed the suspect. Officer McCain was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
