Description: Officer McInerney and his partner responded to a call where a suspect had assaulted a family and wounded a child. As the officers parked in front of the residence, the suspect pulled a .38 caliber gun and fired at both officers. Officer McInerney was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officer John Tobin suffered two gunshot wounds but survived. The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and received the death penalty.
