Description: Chief of Police Martin was shot when he responded to a disturbance call at a bar to arrest two impaired suspects. The two suspects became abusive and fought Chief Martin. One of the men, a boxer, hit Chief Martin in the chest. The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m., and Chief Martin died less than three hours later. The father of Chief Martin, Hansford County (TX) Sheriff Robert E. Martin was also shot and killed in the line of duty on January 26, 1911 (panel 49-W, 17).
